Resonator Violin

This instrument is the result of another client request in 2014.

A new Wickland Instruments build… a resonator violin… technically a 5 string fiddle or fiddola with an additional low viola “C” string… tuning is CGDAE. I used a 9″ Paul Beard mandolin cone and cut down spider bridge. It has a traditional sieve cover plate and composite body of black walnut and carbon fiber plate. The tuners are sealed Gotoh 510 18:1 and the pickup is a Highlander on-board pre-amp and modified under saddle piezo element. The pre-amp is active with an external 9 volt battery box back fed with a stereo cable. The sound is what I hoped for and the instrument is unique for the size of cone and unusual geometry.
