Grant, The banjo was waiting for me when I got back on Monday. Very nice job indeed. I like the weight and the larger width of the neck. The inlays look pretty neat too. Love the sound – different from the other Dobsons in my possession. Superlatives all around.
Hi Grant, I thought I would write you a note about my banjolele. First, it brings me joy just to hold it. I notice the craftsmanship and detail every day that eluded me before. The lateral scale is perfect for me and the sound is powerful. It was a big hit at Uke night, everyone wanted a turn. Thank you again for making such a wonderful instrument. I will drop by for a chat one of these Saturdays.
“Hi Grant, Dan Belgue here – we spoke briefly over email a couple years ago I believe. I play one of your older banjos I bought used from someone in Victoria years ago now. I just wanted to send you a quick message letting you know what your instrument has been up to, as I thought you may be interested to know!
Here’s a recent banjo action shot, from the main stage..
I’ve been meaning to do some work with the resonator for quite some time but various other projects have had to take priority.
Anyway…..a bit of serendipity took over last week as I was preparing for an upcoming performance at a ship launching event. The parent company is Norwegian and I was asked to include various Classical pieces during the evening.
As I was working on my own version of Faure’s Pavane it occurred to me that it would probably be well suited to the haunting tone of your resonator. To make a long story short….about an hour later I had this recording to show for it. I really like how it came out so I’ll be trying the resonator out on some of the other pieces in my repertoire soon.
“Just to let you know that I’ve received the guitar today. It was right on time, thank you.
My first impression is an absolute WOW!
My recollection of that instrument, based on the few minutes I played with it during the Jazz Festival, was that it was simply inspiring. However, I didn’t quite remember the aesthetics details. But now that it’s right beside me, I must say it’s absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks for the spare parts and the string set. If I decide to change anything, for instance the string height, I’ll probably check with you first.
I’ll make sure to stop and say hi at the next Montreal Guitar Show.
And you’re right, my friends will be envious. 🙂
Thanks again, and congratulations; you make great instruments.”
